Eastford was settled back in the early 1700s. It was separated from its parent town in 1847. There's a hiking trail in Eastford along remnants of the Boston Post Road. This was a route that facilitated commerce and communication in the colonial era. Lastly, there's a monument dedicated to the hometown hero, Nathaniel Lyon. Lyon was the first Union general killed in the Civil War.
The only school in the district is Eastford Elementary School. Most high school students attend Woodstock Academy. The town is near three alternative high schools: Ellis Vocational Technical School, Windham Technical School and Quinnebaug Middle College.

State Owned Boat Launch off Kennerson Reservoir/Hall's Pond Road, Eastford. A large stone fireplace in this park is the remains of the birthplace ofthe first Union General killed in the Civil War, Nathaniel Lyon.
