The History

Franklin was founded in 1786 and was named after Benjamin Franklin, but was originally called, "West Farms".  Franklin is mostly rural and focused on preserving the agricultural roots. 

The Schools

The Franklin School holds grades K-8 and The Norwich Free Academy serves as the main high school for Norwich and surrounding towns, inlcuding Franklin.  Back in 2001, the Norwich Free Academy was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence!

This museum is just off of Blue Hill road and down the street from Blue Slope Sawdust Co. and the Blue Slope Farm. This museum has everything from Dairy Farming to pure maple syrup! The staff is so friendly as well.

Charlie Brown Campground is located in about 12,000 plus acres of the state park and forests.  Charlie Brown Campground has an abundance of nature trails for horseback riding, biking, hiking and the best fishing in the state!

Ayers Gap

Also known as "Bailey's Ravine", Ayers Gap is a rough terrain place that secretly holds a beautiful little waterfall. If you climb to the top, you'll come across a path that will eventually give you an amazing view across Franklin. Bring your camera as there are many creeks, waterfalls, stately hemlocks and the aroma of the preserve's interior gorge.
