With a population of just 3,303 as of the 2010 Census, Andover, CT is a tight-knit community located in Tolland County. 

First incorporated in 1848, this darling town was formed when parts of Hebron and Coventry were joined. Today, the community is a little more than 15 square miles.

Despite its size, Andover has plenty to offer Connecticut home buyers.  For instance, several rivers run through the community, such as Hop River, Burnap Brook and Skungamaug River.

Plus, the Nathan Hale State Forest is located in the northeast part of the town as well, offering residents incredible vistas of natural beauty year-round.

Plenty to See and Do in Andover

Perhaps the greatest recreational amenity that Andover has to offer is its lake.  Andover Lake is a 155 acre private lake that offers plenty of recreational amenities to its members.

Created in 1927, this lake offers swimming, boating, fishing and other water activities to its members.

If you’re not interested in buying a membership to Andover Lake, the Doris Chamberlain Nature preserve is a nice alternative.  This beautiful reserve, which is located on Route 316, features a small pond as well as walking trails.

Other outdoor recreational amenities include Hop River State Park Trail as well as the East Coast Greenway.

Plus, there are plenty of historic homes in the area, providing families with both fun and educational recreation options. For instance, the Town Hall was built in 1893 and is now used as a town museum. 

The Museum of Andover history features more than 100 old photos and maps, as well as a large mural painting celebrating the town’s history.
