Here in Scotland, Connecticut, Isaac Magoon was the first settler to establish the southeast corner of Windham and naming it after his homeland. In the beginning of the 18th century, Magoon purchased close to 2,000 acres of land, which was the initial up-bringing of the town’s history. What Life is Like in Scotland

Here in Scotland, the town has the least amount of population in Windham County, so you won't ever feel like it's crowded! This rural town has an abundance of agriculture. There's also plenty of outdoor activities with several state parks to check out, including the Salt Rock State Forest!

Points of Interest in Scotland

Scotland Highland Festival is held every year in October.  It includes bagpiping, drumming, dancing and athletic competitions; Clan village, vendors with Scottish food and wares! Sheep herding and animals of Scottish heritage, a parade of the bands and welcoming ceremony. Special entertainment is folk music, harp circle, Celtic bands, story tellers and more! NO PETS ALLOWED. Free shuttle bus service with off-site parking.

D'Elia Antique Tool Museum was built in 2005 and is housed in the same building as the Scotland Public Library. It is the home of over 1200 antique woodworking planes dating back to the mid-18th century. Another attraction is the Samuel Huntington house which located on Huntington Rd or Route 14

The Huntington Homestead is the birthplace of Samuel Huntington, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a distinguished statesman during the Revolutionary War and early Republic. The remarkably well-preserved site includes an eighteenth century house on its original foundation surrounded by acres of farmland, bordered by Merrick Brook. It includes old-growth trees, stone walls, an abandoned road, and other interesting features. The Huntington Homestead is a surprising discovery so late in the twentieth century, when most historic sites have already been enshrined or ravaged. It is a National Historic Landmark.  The Huntington Homestead is open to visitors May through October on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Highland Campground offers 120 sites and is located off I-395 Exit 83 and is midway between Mystic Seaport and Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. Relax in the quiet, wooded park with modern facilities. Take a swim in the swimming pool, join in a game of shuffleboard or just enjoy a campfire.
