If you are an Active or Pending Claimant in line for replacement funding the news coming from CFSIC is very encouraging, as long as you fully participate and do your part. With $100 million in new funding over 4 years beginning July 1, 2022, CFSIC will begin to address the 600+ Pending Claimants 3-4 years earlier than previously predicted. With the final $20 million installment of the original $100 million pledged in 2017 approved on July 23, 2021, CFSIC will start to issue Participation Agreements to Severity Class 2 claimants for the first time since it's inception.
A word of caution for those reluctant or unwilling to proceed for whatever reason: You are in or you are out. If you have an inactive claim because you have not supplied the required documentation you now have 180 days from July 5, 2021 to provide what is missing or you will be removed from the program to make room for other claimants who need and want help.
Likewise, if you have an Active claim you will have 180 days from 7/5/2021 to obtain 2 contractor proposals and sign a contract to move forward to the Participation Agreement line. If you fail to do that, you too will be eliminated from the program so that someone else may take advantage of this opportunity.
Condos and PUDS also have 180 days to comply with the claim process requirements to get in line for a Participation Agreement or be eliminated from the program. The PUD and Condo situation is more complicated and I encourage you to read the Latest News section on the CFSIC site.
In the case of a PUD, if you are an Active claimant on a multi-unit platform (single foundation) and if your neighbors are Pending Claimants, they have 180 days from July 5, 2021 to follow the claims process to become Active like you. If they do not do this, they will be removed from the program and you will be on your own to seek remediation for your single unit, if it is possible. Active or Inactive Severity 3 or 2 Condo Associations have 180 days from July 5, 2021 to submit signed remediation contracts or be eliminated from the program as well. Read more in the latest update about PUDs.
The addition of $100 million in funding, the elimination of the sunset date for CFSIC and the push for compliance to move families to the Participation Agreement line is the long awaited light at the end of this long dark tunnel. It’s up to you if you want to cross the finish line. As of today, you have 158 days to do it.
